The KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has asked NEPRA to come forward play its constitutional role and ensure his Province get its share in the net hydel power generation (NHP) as per Article 161 of the Constitution

The KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has asked NEPRA to come forward play its constitutional role and ensure his Province get its share in the net hydel power generation (NHP) as per Article 161 of the Constitution, the methodology of A.G.N Kazi Committee repeatedly endorsed by the Council of Common Interest (CCI), a presidential Order and even the Supreme Court. He was leading a delegation comprising parliamentary leaders in KP assembly to the public hearing in the Tariff Petition filed by WAPDA before NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) on Thursday. Senior Minister Sikandar Sherpao, Anisazeb Tahirkhieli, Senior Minister from Jamaate Islami, Enayatullah Khan, minister Muhammad Atif Khan, and MPAs Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha and Nighat Orakzai respectively from PML(N) and PPP. The Chief Minister stated that last year after great efforts the NHP paid to the Province was uncapped from Rs.6 billion and increased to 19 billion but that was purely a temporary arrangement. He pointed out that they do not want to put any extra burden on the consumers but electricity produced at 0.55 per unit from KP based Hydel power station was sold at an average rate of Rs.10.45 per unit. Thus he pointed out that such difference of Rs.10 per unit which amounted to over Rs.100 billion a year was the share of his Province in the NHP. He said that this share of KP in the NHP was instead used to subsidize the expensively generated electricity at other sources like coal Rs.12.18 per unit, HSD Rs.13.50, Furnace oil Rs.10.34 per unit, RLNG 10.45, Wind Rs.16.63 and solar at Rs.16.95 per unit. Pervez Khattak also pointed out that his Province could not consume its share of 13.5 per cent of electricity because of the constrains of the distribution system PESCO has totally ignored for the last few decades. <><><><><><><>
