Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed to go whole hog for controlling the spread of dengue virus

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed to go whole hog for controlling the spread of dengue virus and totally eliminate it through constant surveillance and monitoring at different layers of governance. He was for the total uprooting of the source of dengue virus and directed the MPAs, district, Tehsil and union councils nazimeen to be in their respective areas so that the people realize that the whole governance structure is with them in this time of need. Presiding over a high level meeting at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar, Mr. Pervez Khattak directed to ensure the proper implementation of multi pronged strategy for controlling and eliminating dengue virus. The meeting was attended by provincial minister for Health Shahram Tarakai, Minister Revenue, Ali Amin Gandapur, MNA Eng. Hamid Khan, MPAs Shaukat Yousafzai, Yasin Khalil, Arbab Jehandad, Mehmood Jan, Arif Yousaf, head of SSU Sahibzada Saeed, Secretary Health Abid Majeed, Secretary Relief Saqib, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, district Nazim Arbab Asim, Peshawar and others. The meeting focused on the monitoring of breeding places and sources of dengue, the publicity campaign to raise the awareness level against the dengue virus, the spray in the affected areas. The meeting was informed about the software developed by Provincial IT Department to identify the exact places and sources of dengue. Chief Minister directed to replicate the previous year’s experience of totally eliminating dengue virus that was successfully experienced in Swat. However, he also directed to constitute emergency teams to be in the mobilized phase to attend any complaint from any area suspected for dengue virus. The Chief Minister called upon the elected representatives to show their presence in their respective affected areas of dengue virus. They should also hold constant meetings at different tiers in order to make effective steps against dengue virus. Their participation and supervision was very necessary as they would properly monitor the whole exercise, the government initiated against the washing out of breeding places and sources of dengue. Pervez Khattak also directed to the concerned quarters to make an MoU with the Malaysian government for replicating their model and get help of their experiences as they had the same experience but successfully controlled it some thirty years back. He was due to visit Malaysia but he postponed his visit because of dengue outback. He stressed for capacity building of the officials of monitoring teams in order to effectively handle the situation. He also directed for the availability of necessary funding for purchases of different equipments and medicines, adding that in any emergency, the responsible officials should take decisions on emergency level as they have to stop devastation. He also directed for collection of actual data of the dengue victims and directed to send teams for cleaning campaign from door to door and involve the whole community. The teams should not be less than 200, he added. Chief Minister also asked about the travelling history of different victims and was informed about the situation. He directed to take all steps against the communicable disease adding that the existing strategy was up to the mark and all respective departments should pull their sleaves for the fulfillment of their obligations. He was also informed about the establishment of isolation wards in all hospitals throughout the province. Chief Minister directed to ask the private sector hospitals to follow the same pattern. The meeting was informed that according to the WHO report, the areas of Tehkal had 86% dengue breeding sources that was brought down to 46% because of the constant cleanliness, communication strategy, the working out of proper methodology and the proper and timely steps of the government departments. The Chief Minister directed to make preparation for the next year season well in advance in order to totally root out dengue from the province. <><><><><><><
