The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has mobilized all resources to prevent and eradicate the outbreak and spreading of Dengue. The strategy comprises of motivating, mobilizing and involving all government departments, organizations and communities in a coordinated and sustained manner.
The campaign will be continued till March so that the disease may not spread during its feared season from November till March. While for emergency help a dedicated toll free phone number is established, for awareness broachers were being distributed in education institutions from Wednesday (today) while isolated wards reserved throughout the province. With regard to cleanliness not only the local governments but each and every segment of society is being involved under the leadership and supervision of the Health Secretary. The already drafted public health emergency law will also be promulgated soon. The legislation is pending vetting by the law department.
It was also revealed in a high level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak that the data about those diagnosed positive may be exaggerated as majority of the suspects had made double tests particularly when mobile teams from the Health Department reached the Province. PTI Chairman Imran Khan co-presided over the meeting while Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan, Minister and Secretary Health Shah Ram Khan Tarakai and Abid Majed also participated. It was also revealed that the first patient diagnosed as positive had come from Azad Kashmir.
The Chief Minister approved the appointment of sanitation staff on contract basis and the Health Department to procure whatever is required. Around 4/500 sanitation staff will soon be recruited on emergency basis while cleanliness will be ensured everywhere at every costs. Personal from the Health Department are also deputed from the otherwise autonomous Hospitals while two ADHOs have been posted to the two hospitals and a 3rd one to the Deputy Commissioner Peshawar. The Chief Minister assured that paucity of funds will never be made a pretext for saving the lives of the people.
For creating awareness and motivation of communities to join the preventive measures, publicity and broadcast campaigns have been launched while the Provincial Government’s own FM Radio Stations are constantly broadcasting messages to guide the communities prevent the epidemic disease. The local government representatives will also be motivated to come forward and mobilize the people in their respective areas and ensure taking all precautionary measures particularly cleanliness in their surroundings.
