The long standing problem of gas supply to various villages and hamlets in district Swabi was resolved Monday and it was decided that Chief Minister Parvez Khattak will inaugurate it on August 31. The decision to this effect was made in a meeting presided over by the Chief Minister in which besides others Speaker KP Assembly Asad Qaiser, MNAs Dr.Imran Khattak and Aqibullah Khan, Federal Secretary Petroleum, MD and GM Sui Gas, MD KP Oil and Gas Company Ltd participated. As per the decision, the representatives of the Federal Government and Sui Northern Gas (SNGPL) lifted the ban on gas supply to the area and thus released the materials for supply of both 6 and 8 inches pipe lines. They also agreed to make all arrangements for inauguration of supply main at 4 places of Zaida, Kohta, Topi, and Tordher before the aforementioned fixed date. They also issued job numbers for distribution network. The scheme involved over one hundred kilometer pipeline. The issue was pending since 1995 as pipeline had been laid in various localities of the District en-route to village Swabi-Jehangira but left un-commissioned due to “paucity of funds”. Later gas was provided to Jehangira, Zaida, Topi and Gadoon villages but most of the area falling in NA-13 comprising PK-34, 35 and 36 remained deprived of the facility. The present scheme so approved will provide gas to villages like Marghuz, Thand Kohi, Ghar Munara, Gaar Aka Khel, remain parts of Zaida, Yousafay, remaining parts of Bam Khiel, Anbar, Mankai, Jalsai, Tordher, Chota Lahore, Batakra, Kotaha, Zarobai, Kunda, Kalabat, Kaddai, Dhokh, Pontia, Menai, Jalbai, remaining parts of Punjpir, Shah Mansoor, Humlet, Janda Boko, Baja, Dhodher, Pabinai, Pajmon etc. It is worth-mentioning that while the Speaker KP Assembly in whose constituency the areas mostly fall had held a number of meetings with the Federal Government authorities including the former Minister Petroleum and now Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abasi while Chief Minister Parvez Khattak had written a number of D.O letter to the then Prime Minister for the resolution of this long standing problem. The Provincial Government is already committed to contribute its share of the costs so incurred on the scheme. Meanwhile, the SNGPL has released Rs.2.88 billion oil and gas cess from the income generated from Districts Hangu and Karak which the Chief Minister decided to be fully and exclusively utilized for the infrastructure development of these two districts. Such spending will bring both of these otherwise backward districts of KP on a par rather ahead of the rest of the Province and even the country. =============
