Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has welcomed the investment from the Danish government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adding his government has opened the province for foreign investors. He reminded that in the past the worsening law and order situation was the main hurdle in the foreign investment. The rulers were corrupt, however, his government changed the system, re-tracked the development of the province and put in place a transparent system suitable for both domestic and foreign investment. For the first time, his government distributed lease agreements to the potential investors in the presence of media-men, he added. These remarks he made while talking to the outgoing Danish Ambassador Mr. Ole Thonke, who called on him at Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad today. Welcoming the keenness of the government of Denmark to invest in the province, the Chief Minister assured his government would provide all out support to the Danish companies. His government would offer six sites and the Danish companies could retain three of them for cement plant in the province. Referring to the natural advantages and the available investment opportunities in the province, Pervez Khattak regretted that the previous rulers did nothing to utilize the natural advantages for the benefit of the province adding that the government machinery was corrupt to the core in the past and the law and order situation was not suitable. The system was weak and the corrupt mafia were the main reasons that’s why no foreign investor landed here for investment in the province. Chief Minister said when his government came to power, it had a vision and commitment to change the system and revived the process of industrialization in the province. At the outset, our plans were never taken serious, understandably it was not an easy task to change the seven decade’s old system which protected the interest of the ruling elite and influentials of the society. Our efforts were obstructed constantly but we did not lose hope and never compromised on our manifesto to change the system. His government was committed to eliminate all irregularities, corruption, nepotism and bury the self centric interest that was necessary for laying down a transparent system of governance for the future of the province, he added. Pervez Khattak talked about his constant efforts for the de-politicization of public sector institutions and establishment of autonomous boards and authorities in the province. He reduced the role of the government in the decision making process of the boards and authorities adding that reforms were brought in police, health and education sectors that restored the confidence of the people in the government and that was the main reason the foreign investors landed here to invest in the province. He also talked about the monitoring and check and balance mechanism for different public sector entities adding that the presence of doctors and teachers was ensured, the deficiency of teachers and doctors were fulfilled because his government thought that the education and health could build nation. He said because of the different layers of education, the Urdu medium was producing labourers and low-paid employees and the English medium was producing officers therefore his government introduced English from the basic schooling system so that the kids of poor could have equal growing opportunities and the poor could compete with the rich for future mobility. He also talked about the third layer of education which was madrasa education, adding that the international community had negative perception about it which he dismissed and added that the madrasa education system was purely religious education and even his government took steps to mainstream madrasa education. He said that the security forces and the people of the province offered great sacrifices in the war-on-terror. He said that bad governance was the root cause of poverty in the country. In his province he focused on good governance, introduced a transparent and people-friendly-governance because we understand our problems better than others. He was optimistic that the steps of his government would bring about a durable peace in the province. The Danish Ambassador appreciated the performance of the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and took well the incentives given to the foreign investors.
