Raid at the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar on the growing public complaints

Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice Retd. Dost Muhammad Khan had a raid at the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar on the growing public complaints today. During his raid he expressed anguish over the absence of doctors and other auxiliary staff, the pathetic condition of the patients and wandering about of the attendants seeking doctors and other healthcare staff,the irregularities in the lab tests and the poor cleanliness condition in different caring facilities of the hospital. He was taken aback by the ground situation, the mismatch between expenditures and facilities in the hospital adding that the government was providing more than enough resources for efficient healthcare in the hospital but nothing worked and the patients continued to be at the receiving end. It is hard to run an institution without determining the responsibilities of the individuals in that institution. He was hastened to convene a high level meeting of the Board of Governors of the hospital and the Secretary Health after observing the growing complaints of the patients and the mismanagement in the lady reading hospital. The Caretaker Chief Minister in his surprise visit to look into state of affairs of the Hospital visited different specialties, caring units including laboratory, emergency and different wards and asked about the facilities to the patients. He was dissatisfied with the level of healthcare being extended to the poor patients. He also expressed his anguish over the non availability of life saving drugs and the availability of certain medicines and too of average and infamous pharmaceutical companies. This is sorrowful that the non availability of life saving drugs is a source of lost of precious lives that otherwise could be saved. He said that health sector is the key area that should be focused more than other sectors and the people associated with this noble profession should demonstrate humane attitude to the patients. He attributed the lethargic attitude and less focus in the health sector as one of the reason for the societal degradation and imbalances. He stressed the need to nominate the Chief Pharmacist as the member of the medicines purchasing committee. Caretaker Chief Minister said it is strange that nobody was aware of the shortage or otherwise of medicines therefore there should be the clear determination of responsibility in order to make the system workable. Caretaker Chief Minister also inspected the main laboratory of the hospital, heard the complaints of the attendants of patients and took notice and issued directives for rectification and immediate response generation. He expressed anguish over the absence of pathologist in the laboratory and directed to take a stern action against all those who are habitual shirking their official duties. There is no Sunday off in emergency healthcare services in the hospital because of the urgency and serious nature of injuries and patients etc. Dost Muhammad Khan also took notice of the insensitivity of the hospital staff in the treatment of a kid admitted in the hospital and asked for detail report indicating the responsibilities of the individuals. The Caretaker Chief Minister during his detailed visit to different sections of the hospital formally signed the Duty Roster in different wards and sections of the hospital. He regretted the absence of 50% doctors and officials from their duties. He directed to install bacteria detector equipment in the emergency. The absence of bacteria detector machine bring further complications.
