The energy and power sector has got more importance needing focus approach in the modern age

Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (R) Dost Muhammad Khan has said that the energy and power sector has got more importance needing focus approach in the modern age. The professionals of the public sector should use modern techniques replacing the traditional approach in order to get the required targets in this sector, he added. He directed against the wastage of perennial water resources adding that it is natural gift and should be exploited for the benefit of the people, the province and country. The storage of water resources would not only bring under cultivation the barren land of the province but would also generate the much needed electricity. He directed to put the power sector projects in the implementation phase in order to ensure the public interest associated with these projects. He was presiding over a meeting on the pace of progress on the developmental projects in the energy and power sector throughout the province at CM Secretariat Peshawar. The meeting was attended by Minister Energy and Power Fazal Illahi, Principal Secretary to CM Shahab Ali Shah, Secretary Energy and Power Salim Khan and other relevant officials. Justice Retired dost Muhammad Khan advised the officials of energy and power sector of the public sector institution to abandon the inefficient traditional method of electricity generation adding that in the modern age we need to use modern techniques in all energy and power sector projects. The Caretaker Chief Minister said that the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was replete with the abundant natural water resources therefore the professionals in the energy and power sector should work out a mechanism for taping this natural advantage for the benefit of the people and province adding that there were dozens of sites which could easily be converted into small and medium power generation projects and that could easily produce 5 mega watt, 10 mega watt, 15 mega watt and more electricity in the province. The identification of these projects and the subsequent implementation could enable us to stand on our own feet in the energy and power sector and we could easily meet out our future requirements. The feasibilities and designs of all these projects should be finalized as expeditiously as possible. Justice Retd Dost Muhammad Khan directed to engage the locally educated young professional engineers produced by Engineering Universities Peshawar who could render efficient services in the taping, exploitation and production of energy and electricity projects that would be more beneficial for the province in the given situation. He directed for a reward and punishment approach in all public sector institutions. This approach would encourage the efficient and honest people and discourage and filter the dishonest and inefficient one’s he added. He said we need to enhance our electricity production in order to ensure a secure and prosperous future for the coming generation. He also directed to use all possible means to discourage the cases of thefts, pilferages, and wastage of energy and power. He directed the PEDO and OGCL to work on modern lines. Caretaker Chief Minister was briefed about the functions of the energy and power department and its projects initiated throughout the province.
