Health sector upgradation in the province revolutionized the healthcare improvement

Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice ® Dost Muhammad has said that the health sector upgradation in the province revolutionized the healthcare improvement adding that the reforms supported by incentives to the doctors and staff enhanced their motivational level bringing dynamism to the institution. He admitted that regulatory framework is key to quality services in the health sector. He was presiding over a high level meeting at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shahab Ali Shah and Head of SSU Sahibzada Saeed and others attended. Secretary Health Abid Majeed briefed the Chief Minister about the health sector reforms and initiatives for the efficient health delivery in all public sector institutions. The Chief Minister directed for the efficient utilization of resources in all sectors and health sector is one of the key areas needing investment and that investment is the actual saving that maximizes productivity. The illness of bread earners brings different kinds of burden to the society and the family system at large. Dost Muhammad said that population explosion and the less focus on the breast feeding are the two threatening areas harmful to the national growth. Both areas needed attention and the health sector should focus on awareness creating campaigns against population explosion and in favour of breast feeding. For breast feeding the dedicated ward should have an LED carrying the messages of professional gynecologists for persuasion and telling the advantages of breast feeding. He stressed for implementation strategies with more focus on prevention of diseases of different nature. The society needed to be sensitized towards health related issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Caretaker Chief Minister said investment in health is understandably is one of the best investments in a society. We have to go for out of the box solution in the health sector that included dealing and preventing different kind of diseases in the province included the creation of awareness that will ease out the work considerably in the health sector in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Health department should have a complaint redressal mechanism within the given hospitals and the problems registered with these complaints cells should be resolved within 15 days. The noble profession of health should not have unethical issues therefore ethics should be included in the teaching of noble professions as the practitioners come in direct contact with the society. The developed societies already had a set of high standards of professionalism and we needed to replicate them. Adding that diagnosing and prescription needed full attention and should be taken care of. Dost Muhammad noted that it is appreciable that the health department had large scale professional improvement brought about by different incentives and packages but these efforts should be commensurate with the level of delivery by professional in the health department as health is one of the critical areas needed dedicated and focus approach and its services should have been essential services as society as a whole is depended on it therefore structural adjustment is necessary in the health sector. He said that sometime you have to fight the mafia for all the wrongs. The spurious and substandard drugs is a crime and if in connivance with the deliverers in the field, it then criminalize the health delivery system therefore legislations of the KP government replacing the unhealthy practices with the healthy practices was a rightful act. Caretaker Chief Minister directed to put sanitation and drinking water facilities in a all health sectors projects in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adding that divisional level health care institutions should be strengthened enabling the locals to get efficient healthcare within their districts and should not come to Peshawar for such facilities. He also taken notice of the growing infant mortality ratio in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and directed to identify the contributing factor along with the comprehensive data and the health department should work on it. The mother – child healthcare system needed focused attention with the enhanced awareness amongst the mothers adding that the rich could easily afford the expenditure anywhere but the problem is with the poor and we have to save the poor. He attributed it to the unused modern techniques, illiteracy and cultural taboos in the society where the patient normally hide the information associated with the chronic diseases. Dost Muhammad directed to fill the ditches created by the construction work on Bus Rapid Transit Peshawar so that these should not become storage places for the Dengue larva. He directed for immediate action on any report indicating the existing the dengue larva. It should be monitored and there should be coordination committees. It should be publicized and broadcast and should also be included in the utility bills creating awareness against it. He directed the health department to create a planning wing to make the services more transparent and changer visible the process.
