Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice Retd. Dost Muhammad has asked the police to create quick response force for the pre ,post and during polling scenarios to deal with any eventuality. Intelligence gathering, intelligence sharing and coordination amongst the intelligence agencies is the key for the successful conduct of polls in the province, dealing any eventuality professionally, prevention of infiltration of war mongers and terrorists and checking the crimes both felony and misdemeanor in the province, he added. He was addressing a high level meeting to review the level of preparedness of police for the ensuing polls in the province. Chief Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan, IGP Salahuddin Mehsud, administrative secretaries and police officials attended. DIG Muhammad Ali Baba Khel presented a detailed sketch of the police mobility and preparedness for the general elections in the province. He presented the strength and weaknesses, the challenges and the willingness and preparedness of police to overcome these challenges. Addressing the participants, Caretaker Chief Minister directed to monitor both the frequented and unfrequented routes to stop infiltration of miscreants to the province. The Caretaker government will not allow subversion of elections. There is a possibility that if infiltration takes place, it will find safe placement for onward saboteur activities in the province. Dost Muhammad underlined the need for keeping a vigil and making reinforcement in sensitive areas that should be supported by search operation by the intelligence agencies and police should have a dominant role. The vigilance by police is more important on seeing abnormal activities of the new comers in any localities. The police should have a network and the people be sensitized and in case of any eventuality, the quick response force should spurn into action for controlling the situation. The police should also separate the facilitators and monitor their activities. The region is gaining importance because of the involvement of international players and we should not be oblivious to the new international game plan, he added. The Caretaker Chief Minister said that he would start meeting the political leaders soon so that we could share experiences mutually. We would tell them our side of the story and the level of preparedness for the elections and would also listen to them for their suggestions leading to the peaceful, free, fair and transparent conduct of elections in the province. The meeting was told about the SOPs for the conduct of corner meetings and public gatherings in the province. Dost Muhammad said that he would approach the relevant quarters for the redeployment of Frontier Constabulary to reinforce security situation in the province adding that the merger of FATA into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa enhanced the role of all departments to be sensitive to their responsibilities in future. He called upon the police for the trust building among the people. The removal of apprehensions of the people would bring more efficiency to the working of police, adding that the quality of the security should not be compromised. They have to work day and night and the administration should have all the modern equipments for fire extinction. Caretaker Chief Minister directed for the special arrangements and appropriate deployment in sensitive polling stations putting some safeguards to avert any untoward eventuality. There would be no permission for carrying heavy weapons as these may have severe repercussions adding that he would talk to the relevant quarters for settling the power related issues in the province. However, special arrangements could be made for the electricity in the polling stations by the Local Government Department and would arrange generators. We are gradually approaching for the free, fair, impartial and transparent conduct of coming elections. Provincial government would do everything within its reach in this regard, he added.
