The Strategic Support Unit (SSU) was established on the directives of the Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide updated credible information on progress to the Chief Minister on delivery of the Government’s overarching priorities in five specific areas including Chief Minister Special Initiatives. The SSU will achieve this aim by providing support to the sector Departments and some selected special initiatives of Chief Minister in the form of advice and technical input whenever needed to ensure that existing aspirations are duly transformed into structured plans and accountable results. On January 11^th, 2016 Strategic Support Unit (SSU) gave a presentation to Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan, Chief Minister KP and other high level government officials. Major decisions were taken in all seven initiatives by the CM KPK and directives were issued to the relevant departments/ authorities.

1.      Billion Tree Tsunami Afforestation Project (BTTAP)

Head SSU - Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad gave a comprehensive overview of progress of this initiative. The presentation gave an independent assessment of the status of prioritized reforms including tree plantation, closure of forest land development of nurseries. Head SSU apprised the forum that overall the project is on track and there were just a few hick ups which were discussed.

2.      Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment & Trade (KPBOIT)

Head SSU - Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad gave a comprehensive overview of progress of this initiative. The presentation gave an independent assessment of the status of prioritized reforms including  Enactment of KP-BOI.T Bill,  Award and Progress on Malam Jabba Chairlift/Ski and Hotel, Scrutiny and Award of Chairlift Resort at Naran - Lake Saiful Maluk, Scrutiny and Award of Theme Adventure Park, Nathiagali, Investment Road Show (IRS) – Dubai and few others.

3.      Economic Zone Development & Management Company (EZDMC)

Head SSU - Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad gave a comprehensive overview of progress of this initiative. The presentation gave an independent assessment of the status of prioritized reforms including development, sale and allotment of Hattar Economic Zone, Ghazi Industrial Estate and Acquisition and development of Jalozai and Rashakai. Head SSU pointed out that development of Hattar Econonomic zone is on track and all the timelines are expected to be met. The rest of activities will be badly affected and the timelines set by the company will be difficult to meet because the SDA staff has gone to High Court against EZDMC and the Honorable court has granted them a stay order.

4.      Galiyat Development Authority (GDA)

    The Head SSU - Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad gave a comprehensive overview of progress on the various initiatives of GDA. The presentation gave anindependent assessment of the status of the identified initiatives and activities. The presentation touched upon the progress of various activities, related causes and suggested measures for improvement. At the onset the forum was informed that the GDA is spearheading various initiatives of the government and working relentlessly to tap the potential of the Galiyat region of  KP by developing a master plan for the region, computerising all land records and court cases, amending the GDA Act etc. In order to fast track implementation of these activities and more, GDA in collaboration with various line departments is working tirelessly to bring to fruition this initiative. The forum expressed the hope that completion of these activities will lead to a more responsive Galiyat Development Authority and would serve the public in addition to providing tourism in the region. 

5.      Construction of Playgrounds (Sports Department)

The Head SSU - Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad gave a comprehensive overview of progress on this initiative of the Sports Department. The presentation gave an independent assessment of the status of the project. The presentation touched upon the slow progress in the construction efforts under the project, related causes and suggested measures for improvement. At the onset the forum was informed that the Sports Department is spearheading this initiative of the government and working relentlessly to tap the huge sports potential of KP by constructing 74 sports playgrounds at district and tehsil level.

6.      Swat Expressway

     TheHead SSU - Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad gave a comprehensive overview of progress on this initiative of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority. The presentation gave an independent assessment of the status of the project. The presentation touched upon slow progress in most areas of the project, related causes and suggested measures for improvement. At the onset the forum was informed that KPHA is spearheading the initiative of the government and working relentlessly to tap the huge communication potential of KP. In order to fast track implementation this project, KPHA is working on a strategy of collaborating with private sector to invest in the project on directives issued by the relevant authority. The forum expressed the hope that completion of this initiative will lead to steady economic growth as well as provide direct access to isolated communities and decrease hardships of remote communities by providing them access to other regions of KP. It will also reduce the traffic congestion on the existing roads.

 7.      Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA)

Head SSU - Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad gave a comprehensive overview of progress of this initiative. The presentation gave an independent assessment of the status of prioritized reforms including hiring of Highly Skilled Instructors, notification of Institute Management Committees, procurement of machinery, up gradation of Women Training Institute at Hayatabad, Free Technical Education for deserving youth. Head of SSU apprised the forum about free technical training for deserving youth and flagged the issues in it.
